What van key replacement involves
A replacement key normally has two parts: the physical blade, which is cut to match your van's locks and ignition, and the electronics — a transponder chip and, on most modern vans, a remote. Both have to match the van before it will start and lock reliably.
Depending on the vehicle, the new key is either programmed through the van's diagnostic port or prepared using information from the existing system. The method that applies to your van depends on the make, model, year and key system fitted.
When you might need a replacement
Customers usually contact us because:
- The only key has been lost or stolen
- The key is cracked, the blade is snapped or the buttons have stopped working
- A second-hand van came with a single, worn key
- The key works intermittently and you want a dependable replacement before it fails
What to send us when you enquire
To check whether we can supply a key for your van, please have the following ready:
- Van registration number
- Make, model and year (e.g. Ford Transit Custom, 2019)
- Whether you have a working key, a damaged key or no key at all
- Where the van is parked in or around Eastleigh
- Proof of ownership or authority to use the vehicle (V5C, finance or lease paperwork, or a company letter)
How the mobile visit works
Once we have confirmed the vehicle details, we explain what is likely to be involved and agree a visit. The work is carried out at the van, whether that is a driveway in Eastleigh, a yard in Chandler's Ford or a customer's site where you were working.
Prices, timescales and the exact work required depend on the vehicle and key system, so we confirm these after checking your details rather than quoting a flat rate. Some vehicles or key systems may not be suitable for on-site work, and we will tell you if that is the case.
Van makes covered
This service is offered for our advertised makes: Ford, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Vauxhall, Renault, Nissan, Peugeot, Citroën, Fiat, Toyota, Iveco.
Van Key Replacement: common questions
Is a replacement key the same as the original?
It is made to work with your van's locks, ignition and immobiliser. The key style available depends on the vehicle and what is compatible with its system.
Will my old key still work?
If the old key is lost, we can often discuss removing it from the van's memory as part of programming, where the vehicle allows it. Ask when you enquire.
