About Nissan ignitions
Nissan's van line-up is broad, and several models — the Primastar, NV300 and NV400 among them — share engineering with other manufacturers. The ignition on a Nissan van therefore depends heavily on the model and year.
Cabstar and NT400 Cabstar chassis cabs often carry tipper, dropside or recovery bodies; the ignition belongs to the base vehicle. Send the registration and the symptoms and we will advise on the options.
Ignition options for Nissan vans
- Mechanical ignition barrel repair or replacement — For vans with a key-turn ignition where the barrel is worn, sticking, seized or damaged.
- Electrical ignition switch replacement — The switch behind the barrel can fail on its own — the key turns but the electrical side does not respond properly.
- Electronic ignition (EIS) work — For vans that use an electronic ignition unit rather than a purely mechanical barrel, including some push-button systems.
- Broken key extraction from the ignition — Removing a snapped blade from the ignition without causing further damage, before a new key is made.
Whether your original key can be kept depends on the van and the fault — we try to keep it wherever possible. If a new key or programming is needed, we will tell you before starting.

Yes. The ignition relates to the base Cabstar, so the body type does not normally change the ignition work.
My NV200 key has snapped in the ignition — what should I do?
Leave the remaining piece in place and avoid trying to pull it out with pliers, which can damage the barrel. We can extract it and arrange a replacement key.
